Along with your experienced guide you will paddle at a relaxing pace and explore the shallow, calm, blue-green waters of the back country of Key West. You will glide through the winding mangrove creeks and paddle through inches of water, where you can easily view and learn about the geological structure of the Keys along with its inhabitants, all from the comfort of your kayak. Your adventure will give you a chance to view the mangrove environment up close, along with its marine life including tropical fish, crabs, sea stars, jellyfish, sea cucumbers, sponges and various aquatic birds. Every trip leads us on a different adventure!
WHERE DO WE GO?
This often asked question is best answered by explaining that the wind, tides, and seasons are always changing. Thus the animals change and our boating conditions change. The back country of the lower Keys encompasses hundreds of square miles. The area that we access each day is based upon existing conditions to provide you with a most memorable experience.
PARKING IS VERY LIMITED ESP DURING HOLIDAYS. TAXI/UBER/LYFT RECOMMENDED
WHAT YOU WILL SEE:
The back country is hundreds of mangrove islands separated by shallow water. The shallow water zone is, for descriptive purposes, divided into hard bottom and soft bottom biological communities. Channels, shoals, and human development further delimit the areas of plant and animal activity.
WHO CAN GO:
Sea Kayaking is a mild physical exercise that is not age restrictive. Normal health is sufficient and many persons with physical handicaps have enjoyed our trips. It is not necessary to be able to swim as life vests are supplied to everyone regardless of ability. The water we travel is for the most part quite shallow. Children, 9 years or older, who are accompanied by a parent or guardian, and who are interested in natural history are welcome. Dogs welcome on any kayak or paddleboard rental and dogs that are used to other people and being on the water welcome on the tour.

What to Bring
- Sunscreen reef safe recommended please
- Up to you whether you wear shoes on the tour or not. They will get wet so if you choose to wear shoes, make sure they're water shoes!
- Water we sell water
- Rash guard/Long Sleeve T/Hat if sensitive to sun
- Waterproof Camera/Case for phone we sell cases too!
** we recommend you wear a bathing suit or clothes you don't mind getting wet! While there's no intentional swimming on the tour, things happen**
Check-in Info
- Check-in is 30 mins before tour time. Please. 30 mins. Please allow for traffic and note that we are in Key West. Nowhere near Marathon or Key Largo or Miami. If you show up past check in time or at tour time, you will be considered a no show and there will be no refunds. So come on, don't make us be jerks! You've got this! You can show up 30 mins before!
- Check-in is at Lazy Dog at Hurricane Hole Marina just past Mile Marker 4 on US 1North. PARKING IS VERY LIMITED. TAXI/UBER/LYFT RECOMMENDED
and that also allows you to have a bite or drink after at the dockside marina restaurant!
Additional Notes
- It's customary to tip your guide 20%. Cash or credit card accepted or ask for your guide's Venmo
- You're welcome to leave anything that can't get wet with us at the Paddle Shack. There is no dry storage in kayaks or on boards
- Rest rooms are available on site
- Outdoor freshwater shower available

Know Before You Come to Key West
Cancellation Policy
Look, we understand the bars are open until 4 am. All we ask is that you give us 12 hours* cancellation for full refund if you feel you'll suddenly become "ill" the next day so that we may give your spot to someone else. Or come anyway! sweat it out then some hair of the dog at the dock side bar!
*Please note that Eco Boat Adventure requires 24 hours due to limited availability
As far as the weather, don't believe the hype. 80% chance of rain usually means it'll be a passing shower at some point and usually overnight. We only cancel the tour if there is lightning in the area
If it's windy, we can usually hide. We'll for sure give you a warning if we think you'll have an issue. Please heed the warning as we know what we're talking about and we just want you to have the best possible vacation experience.
