Driving directions
Meet the kayak guide 15 minutes prior at Chincoteague Veteran's Memorial Park, at the first parking lot on the left by a cross & a kayak launch dock. We have a white Ford truck with Assateague Explorer sign & kayaks.
Look for a sign for Veteran's Memorial Park. The park has a nice playground for kids, tennis courts, basketball courts, a really nice waterfront picnic area overlooking the lighthouse and a great view, free parking and restrooms. Pass the playground, then park in front of the sports field area. The restroom facility is located by the playground.
What To Wear & Bring:
Wear shoes that cover your feet. You can always dry regular shoes out if they get wet, lace them up good so they stay on. Running shoes work good. Neoprene water shoes are popular and sold at Walmart or beach stores. In the rare event you get out of your kayak, there could be ‘Sharp Oysters’ even around the dock, so remember to be careful where you step or put your hands. Flip flops are not the ideal footwear. Covered shoes (you could later dry out if they did get wet) are ideal. A hat and water is also good to bring.
Remember this is a wildlife refuge, so try not to get too close to the wild horses because 30 yards or more is the rule and plenty close to see them in their environment.
Tipping the guide is customary and your very generous gesture is appreciated.
If the minimum number of participants required to run a tour is not met, you will be contacted to reschedule.
