Birdwatchers and wildlife photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to join us as we spot the interesting birds in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Over the course of this walking & driving trip, we will explore the marshes and beaches while on the lookout for interesting birds.

In autumn, we will watch for early arriving migratory waterfowl including Blue winged Teal, Gadwall, American Wigeon, Pintails and others. We’ll also keep an eye out for various warbler species and shorebirds such as Godwits, Herons, Egrets, Avocets, Plovers, gulls and Ibis.

During the winter months we’ll be on the lookout for waterfowl like Gadwall, Redhead, Bufflehead, Black Scoter, Teal, Tundra Swans, Snow Geese, Redheads, Canvasback, Widgeon, Ruddy Ducks, Ring neck Ducks, Northern Shovelers, and Pintails.
We will also be checking for various shorebirds like Ruddy Turnstones, Godwits, Plovers, Rails and Willets.
In addition, the winter should provide a great opportunity to find Northern Harriers, Yellow rumped Warblers, Pelicans, Gulls and White Ibis.

Additional Info

Thanks for joining us on this trip!
MEETUP TO START WILL BE AT THE PEA ISLAND NWR VISITORS CENTER PARKING LOT.

To start off, we will begin birding at the Pea Island Visitors Center.
We will walk across the road from the parking lot to the beach side of the island to check for any birds we can find in the surf or along the shore.
Once we have wrapped up our time on the beach, will then take a short 5-10 min drive to continue birding at Oregon Inlet (Pea Island Life Saving Station) to see what kinds of birds will be foraging near the jetty.

For the best viewing experience, bring your binoculars, scope, long -lens equipped cameras and get ready to enjoy the birds as we explore the Pea Island NWR.

*Transportation is not provided. For directions to the meetup spot a the Visitors Center and the secondary location at Oregon Inlet / Pea Island Life Saving Station , click on the location links below to open Google Maps
