Description: Experience ocean kayaking to Mokolii on our Chinaman's Hat Self-Guided Kayak Tour. We provide everything you need to have a great and safe time out on the water. You'll get kayaks, seat backs, life vests, dry bags, safety equipment, heavy duty pads, straps and private instruction before you set out on your own to experience Chinaman's Hat. Experience this one of a kind Oahu adventure with plenty of epic views. We suggest this tour for individuals who are experienced in kayaking or are comfortable kayaking in the ocean.
What is Included: Get set for an epic adventure to Mokoli’i! We provide all of the gear necessary to make for an epic day. Included in your rental for this self-guided tour are kayaks, paddles, life vests, dry bags, a map of kayak route and other information, and snorkeling gear.
What is not Included: Please keep in mind that this is a self-guided tour. Kayaks will need to be picked up at our storefront in Kailua. We will help you safely attach the kayak onto your vehicle and provide you with all of the necessary information and gear to make for an unforgettable adventure! Please bring any items necessary for the day such as; reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, towels, and shoes that are suitable for both hiking and water activities. If you do not have or have forgotten any of these items on the day of the tour, do not worry as we have them available for purchase at our storefront.
Itinerary: At the Kailua storefront, you'll meet the team who will help strap the kayak to your vehicle and provide all necessary equipment, including a liability waiver to sign. You'll get a personal kayaking lesson, safety demo, and route details before driving 30 minutes to Kualoa Regional Park. The clear, shallow water around Mokoli’i, or Chinaman’s Hat, makes for an easy kayak launch with minimal waves due to a protective reef. Once there, you can choose to hike around the island's circumference for a less strenuous walk or tackle the more challenging ascent to the summit for panoramic views. The easier hike lets you explore a secluded cove and possibly tide pools, while the summit hike is recommended for advanced hikers. It is steep, slippery, and involves some bouldering but offers spectacular views. Watch for sea turtles. The best time for this experience is in the morning when the winds are generally calmer on the east side of Oahu.
Highlights: Ocean Kayaking Experience and Hike combo.
Convenient equipment pickup at our Kailua storefront.
Self-guided experience with personal on-site instruction before you set out on your own.
Hike around the island for views of the Koolau mountain range.
We suggest hiking around the circumference of Mokoli’i. The hike to the top is for experienced adventurers and is moderate to advanced at points.

Bring/wear water shoes or athletic shoes if you want to hike around on Chinaman’s Hat.
