If you can dream it, we can do it! Outside Hilton Head private kayak tours and instruction programs are designed around your groups goals and desires. Using our network of guides, instructors and reservations specialists, we will design a program for you!
For those new to kayaking, we offer instructional programs that will set you on the right course for a lifetime of rewarding paddling. Our American Canoe Association instructors teach introduction to kayaking, strokes and maneuvers, assisted rescues and self rescues, launching and recovering, trip planning, kayak touring, tide interpretation and outfitting. For more experienced paddlers, potential instruction topics include kayak surfing, eskimo rolls, race training, freestyle, advanced strokes and commands, open water kayaking, trip leading, expedition planning, safety and health… to name only a few! Instructors are expertly trained, patient and very experienced with different types of paddlers.
Kayak Instruction
For those looking to do a private version of one of our group programs, or wanting to do a trip not regularly offered, a private tour is a great option. Our Interpretive Naturalist guides are also kayak experts who can lead you on any length of tour. Popular private tour destinations include circumnavigating The Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge, exploring The New River, Combahee River, Okatie River, Colleton River, Port Royal Sound, Broad River, Beaufort River, Tulifinny River, Pocataligo River, Coosawhatchie River or paddling beach side to nearby Daufuskie Island, Page Island, Palmetto Bluff or Beaufort. Full day, half day and shorter tours, as well as multi-day expeditions are all options. On a private tour or instructional clinic with Outside Hilton Head, the possibilities are endless

Check-in Information & Directions:
This trip departs from Shelter Cove Marina. We are located at the southwest corner of the marina next to the Ship Store and Ela's Grille.
Turn off HWY 278 Business into Shelter Cove Harbor, directly across from Palmetto Dunes Resort, between mile markers 8 and 9. Traveling eastbound, turn RIGHT into Shelter Cove Harbor. If traveling westbound, Shelter Cove Harbor will be on your LEFT. Once you turn off the highway take an immediate left onto Shelter Cove Lane. Signs will direct you to the Ship Store and Ela's Grille. Shelter Cove Lane goes 1 mile and ends at a parking lot. Please park in this lot. You will check in at our kiosk (outdoor desk), Located between the parking lot and the docks.
During the Summer Shelter Cove Marina is very busy and parking fills up quickly. We strongly recommend arriving early to secure parking. If the lot near our outpost is full there is more parking near the shops to the left of the Neptune statue. Please park and walk toward the water side of the marina and follow the pathway to the left until you arrive at our desk located near the southwest corner of the marina next to the Ship's Store and Ela’s on the Water.

What to Bring & Wear:
Wear clothing that would be comfortable for on walk on the beach that day. Swimsuits are not necessary, but are permitted. Footwear that would stay on your feet in the water is required. Sport sandals such as Teva's or Chaco's are recommended, and old sneakers are fine, too. Sandals must attach around the ankle, so no flip-flops please. Sun protection is important, regardless of the weather or season. We strongly recommend a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. A bottle of water for each person is also recommended. During Spring and Fall mornings and evenings bug spray may be necessary.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations & Refunds - We accept cancellations up to 48 hours in advance of the scheduled time of your tour or program.
Any cancellation made after that deadline will result in a charge for the full amount of the reservation.
Weather cancellations are at the sole discretion of Outside. We will only go out as long as it will be safe and enjoyable. If we should need to cancel your activity due to weather, we will do our best to reschedule your activity. If this is not possible, there will be no charge or we will issue a credit for any payments made.
In the circumstance your trip returns early due to weather you will be given the option to reschedule, receive a partial refund towards another experience or a partial credit back to your card.
