About
Whether you're looking for a safe introduction to SUP, or you'd like to explore our beautiful coastline by paddle, you're welcome to join us.
This booking is for a private lesson for up to two people. Additional people can be added if you wish to have a private instructor for your whole group.
We provide all the equipment you'll need, including high-quality 5mm thick winter wetsuits that keep you toasty, buoyancy aids, and gloves, boots, and hoods if needed.
- Perfect for your first time paddleboarding; build comfort, skills, and safety knowledge for independent paddling.
- Flat-water conditions; sheltered harbour or beach location
- Structured 2 hour lesson
- Learn control techniques, safety & self-rescue, and have fun!
What to expect?
For our Introduction to SUP, we'll meet at the chosen venue; a sheltered harbour or our beach base depending on the conditions. We'll get changed and familiarise ourselves with the equipment and important safety information. Then we'll hit the water where you'll build control of the board on your knees before getting to your feet. Our aim is to provide a structured lesson that builds your comfort and prepares you for independent paddling or a tour. The lesson will last about 2 hours after we're changed and good to go.
What to bring?
Please bring a towel, sunscreen, and water. We recommend you arrive with swimwear on (for under your wetsuit) as it makes it easier to get changed at the beach.
Requirements
- We ask that everybody taking part in our paddleboard lessons can swim 50 metres.
- The minimum age limit for our group activities is 8 years old.

Course Participation & Acknowledgement of Risk
The activities of surfing, stand up paddleboarding, coasteering, and sea kayaking carry a degree of risk both to people and property, even if enjoyed under proper supervision by qualified instructors.
Our lessons carry moderate risk of minor cuts and bruises and a very small risk of a more serious incident. However, all our instructors follow robust training and procedures to reduce these risks as far as possible without impeding adventurous nature of the activity.
The NCC recognises that well managed Coasteering activity reduces the risk of serious injury or death to an acceptable level. It does not remove it entirely. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.
All customers participating in lessons must make the school aware of any medical conditions, illnesses or allergies which might affect the customers ability to safely participate in the lesson or course. Parents or guardians must sign in for participants who are under 18 years of age. In certain groups where applicable a group leader/guardian can sign i.e. schools, teachers can sign on behalf of the group.
No one should participate in a lesson if pregnant or suffering from a heart condition.
In no circumstances should participants be under the influence of any alcohol, drugs or medication at the time of the lesson which may adversely affect their physical abilities. Participants must agree to abide by all instructions and guidance offered by Blue Coast Surf & Paddle staff.
All participants must be able to swim unaided to take part in surf lessons, and be able to swim 25 metres to take part in coasteering activities, and be able to swim 50 metres to take part in paddleboard and sea kayaking activities.
Participants will have the use of Blue Coast Surf & Paddle equipment during their lessons. We take all reasonable measures to ensure the safety and good condition of our equipment, however participants are responsible for immediately reporting any damage caused to the equipment or which becomes apparent whilst the equipment is in their possession.
