Explore New York’s history through its architecture and see what influenced the look of various neighborhoods and how they changed over 400 years.
From the time Henry Hudson sailed into New York’s Harbor, the City has been a hub of trade and commerce. Millions of immigrants chose New York as their home and the city needed to respond by building residential and commercial buildings for housing and jobs.
Our journey will allow you to see and identify the architectural styles from Georgian, Federal, Greek Revival, Romanesque Revival, Italianate, Renaissance Revival, Gothic Revival, “Queen Anne”, Neo-Classic to the modern period we see today.
By hearing the story of our past, and understanding our current challenges, we look to the future of how we live and work in a post Covid world with new residential and commercial designs, addressing rising sea levels and climate change with new opportunities for architects, engineers, interior designers to come together and create a new built environment.
