About
Encountering the humpback whales on 24-foot Zodiac boats is an amazing experience and especially so at sunset! Enjoy these majestic animals during one of our lovely tropical sunsets. Your naturalist captain will explain the whale’s behaviors and get as close to them as possible (we adhere to Federal MMPA viewing regulations). We also have hydrophones on board to listen to the beautiful whale song.
Zodiac rafts are known worldwide as the perfect vessel to observe marine life. Our fast-moving Zodiacs get into viewing position quickly and provide an exhilarating and fun ride. The small group atmosphere of our expedition allows for a personal and intimate tour. The rafts are only a few feet off the water and everyone has a front-row seat on our 16 passenger Zodiac.
We frequently sight dolphins and other marine life during our expeditions, but these sightings are not guaranteed.
Due to the bouncy nature of our ride, however, we do not allow any persons with back or neck problems or pregnant ladies.

Check-in
- Please arrive 15 min prior to your tour start time
- Please meet us at the Captain Zodiac Office located at 74-425 Kealakehe Pkwy., #16 Kailua Kona, Hawaii 96740.
Parking
- There is free public parking in front of our office
What to bring:
- Backpack (dry area to storage on board)
- Wear swimsuits For whale watchers, please wear comfortable clothing
- Light cover-up
- Sun protection (including reef-safe sunscreen, hats or visors that can be tightened and sunglasses)
- Cameras
- Reusable water bottle (also available for purchase in-store)
Notes/Restrictions: No persons with back/neck problems, pregnant ladies or persons whom have had any recent major surgeries are permitted to go on Captain Zodiac.
Please note that it is now mandatory to use only reef safe sun protection in Kealakekua Bay. Always check the ingredients list when purchasing sunscreen, the only active ingredients should be zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Cancellation Policy
We have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Customers will receive a full refund or credit with 48 hours notice of cancellation. For parties of 6 or more, we have a 72-hour cancellation policy. Customers will also receive a full refund or credit in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. We require at least 6 passengers per boat to run our tours, and in the case of a low passenger count we may need to refund or rebook guests. Contact us by phone to cancel or inquire about a cancellation. No-shows will be charged the full price.
